A sequel to Jennifer’s Body has been teased by writer Diablo Cody, but Jennifer’s Body 2 has a major challenge to overcome, if it happens. Back in 2009, the teen horror comedy film Jennifer’s Body was released, directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody. Jennifer’s Body is now considered a cult classic, but it took it years to achieve such status, and it had a rocky release and reception.
Jennifer’s Body introduces viewers to shy high school student Anita “Needy” Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) and her popular and extroverted best friend Jennifer Check (Megan Fox). After one night at a local dive bar goes wrong, Jennifer shows signs of demonic possession and becomes a succubus, and it’s up to Needy to find a way to stop her, especially before she attacks her boyfriend, Chip (Johnny Simmons). Jennifer’s Body got mixed reviews during its release and was a box office failure, putting on hold any plans for a sequel – but if it finally happens, it has one big challenge to overcome.
Jennifer’s Body 2’s Biggest Challenge Is How To Bring Jennifer Back
Jennifer’s Body sees Jennifer feeding off anyone who crosses her path as her condition as a succubus leads her to feed on flesh. Meanwhile, Needy does her research on how to destroy a succubus, learning that she has to attack Jennifer when she’s hungry and thus weak. After Jennifer kills Chips after attempting to feed on him, Needy confronts her best friend at her home, where she stabs Jennifer in the heart with a utility knife, killing her and destroying the demon, as well. Unfortunately, Needy is caught by Jennifer’s mother, and she’s sent to an asylum.
A sequel to Jennifer’s Body would mean bringing Jennifer back, somehow, which is the biggest challenge it will face. Jennifer’s death doesn’t leave any room for her return or a sequel, but Diablo Cody has told Bloody Disgusting that she still wants to do a sequel. Cody didn’t go into details about what Jennifer’s Body 2 could be about, but if it carries the same title, it would have to bring back Jennifer and find a way to believably do so.
Jennifer’s Body Can Focus On Needy & Her Powers

Jennifer’s Body 2 has another potential story thanks to one loose end from the first movie. During their final battle, Jennifer bites Needy’s neck, but the latter still manages to kill the former. However, while at the asylum, Needy begins to manifest some of Jennifer’s succubus powers as a result of the bite, and in an extra scene at the end of Jennifer’s Body, a home video and crime scenes show that the members of the band who sacrificed Jennifer and caused the whole mess were murdered by Needy.
Needy, then, can be the focus of Jennifer’s Body 2, showing how she has been dealing with her powers, and as her powers come from Jennifer, there’s still a connection to this character. It’s also through Needy’s powers that Jennifer can be brought back, but Jennifer’s Body 2 is also dealing with the challenge of time, as over a decade has passed since the first movie’s release, so it would need to justify Needy bringing Jennifer back after all these years.
