John Clayton Mayer is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and record producer. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mayer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, but left and moved to Atlanta in 1997 with Clay Cook. Together, they form a short-lived two-person group known as the Lo-Fi Master. After breaking up, Mayer continued to play at local clubs, hone her skills and garnered many followers. After appearing at the South by Southwest festival in 2001, he was signed to Aware Records, and eventually Columbia Records, which released the first extension Inside Wants Out. His next two studio albums - Room for Squares and Heavier Things - performed well commercially, hitting many platinum. In 2003, he won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for his single "Your Body Is a Wonderland".
