Civilization: Revolution is a turn-based strategy game for smart phones, and the third incarnation of the title. While it does not feature a 3D world like its console counterpart, it has more advanced graphics than the similar Nintendo DS release. All versions share the same objectives and basic gameplay features. Also several sprites and animations are identical or very similar.
As with all Civilization games, the objective is to expand a civilization from a little tribe in 4,000 BC to a modern world dominating superpower. There are four possible ways to achieve victory: Technological Victory by researching all techs and reach Alpha Centauri, Domination Victory by capturing all four enemy capitals, Economic Victory by achieving 8 economic milestones, and Cultural Victory by getting 20 Great People and World Wonders. The default gameplay is a randomized map, but it is also possible to play one of several included scenarios, or to generate a new game based on customized settings. The player can choose from five difficulty levels and 16 civilizations.
Most gameplay mechanics from the computer games are present, but often somewhat simplified, this includes technological research, city building, unit/building/wonder production, diplomatic relations with other civilizations and animated battles based on statistical attributes. Barbarians, a non playable civilization, is always at war with all other civilization and diplomatic relations are not possible.
The iPad version has a world/scenario creator exclusive to the platform.
