CAREER
Rizzo began his baseball career at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 6th round (204th overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. Rizzo started out in the minor league with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox. He was later promoted to the Greenville Drive, Salem Red Sox, and the Portland Sea Dogs. Rizzo and teammate Ryan Lavarnway were named Red Sox’s Players of the Year in 2010. He finished the season with 100 RBIs and batted 0.260 with 42 doubles and 25 home runs.
Rizzo was traded to the San Diego Padres in December 2010. His MLB debut was on June 9, 2011, against the Washington Nationals. Rizzo was traded to the Chicago Cubs in January 2012. He became the first player in the Cubs franchise history to record 3 game-winning RBIs in their first five games. Rizzo made three All-Star Game appearances from 2014 to 2016. He started as the first baseman in the 2016 All-Star game after racking up the highest number of votes in the National League.
